Want to walk from Malaga Airport Terminal 3 to the Air Museum and/ or the Holiday Inn? It can be done ! Follow the directions and photos below.
The Malaga Air Museum is well worth visiting and they offer both free admission and free car parking. However, if you are passing a couple of hours at Malaga Airport, it is possible to walk to the Museum despite the apparently pedestrian-unfriendly environment.
Equally, it is easy to walk from the Holiday Inn to the airport rather than taking the bus or, even more expensively, a taxi.
Walk out of the main terminal (T3) as if going to the Uber pick-up. Turn immediately right and walk along the outside of the terminal passing the booth selling coach tickets and a couple of shops/ cafes on the left. You are walking towards the Taxi pick-up point. (below)
At the Taxi pick-up point, walk across the pedestrian crossing in front of the taxis. Head towards the red brick multi-story car park following signs advertising Europcar, Firefly and The Police.
Enter the car park, turn immediately to the left and head for the lifts. Take the lift to the top (2nd) floor, turn left and cross to the long pedestrian gallery which runs across the back of the car park. There are travellators running in both directions. Take the travellator running to the right, away from the airport. A twin-engine Cessna aircraft will be displayed on the ground to your left.
Follow the travellator route until the end of the penultimate one. Instead of continuing on the last travellator, turn left and cross the footbridge over the airport access road. You will see the ‘Yellow Car’ hire company office below on your left.
Descend the footbridge stairs to the ground level next to the BP service station. Walk across the front of the BP station and continue on the concrete sidewalk for another 25 metres or so until entering a rough-ish car park area.
Upon entering the car park, walk parallel to the overhead flyover to the back of the car park (i.e. away from the Terminals). Turn right and walk under the flyover, exiting the car park through gates into the long Avenida Argonautas.
Walk all the way to the end of Avenida Argonautas, which is a quiet, clean road running alongside the airport rail link (on the left) and large car hire warehouses on the right. It is probably almost a kilometre long. At the end, the road wraps around the last workshop on the right ( a swimming pool manufacturer). You can follow to the right for the Air Museum or turn left for the Holiday Inn….
The left turn under the road/ rail underpass is slightly potholed and leads directly to the Holiday Inn and the DelPasseo car hire company. The nearest bus stop for (non-airport) buses heading south is located here. To travel to Malaga City Centre, you would need to cross the blue footbridge to reach the bus stop for services #5, #9 and #10.
If you turn right at the end of Avenida Argonautas, the Malaga Air Museum can be accessed with a slight traffic risk. You need to cross the airport access road from the N-340 and this should be done carefully as the traffic is moving swiftly. Next, walk under the underpass and cross the Airport- N340 egress road – this should also be done with care although traffic is sparser. Walk down the short road which has the San Miguel brewery on the right and the Malaga Air Museum’s DC-3 on the left. The access to the excellent air museum is on the left.
